This was a painting I did in my free time over a weekend, so it certainly was not a masterpeice. However, I think it turned out polished enough to be considered a decent work. I got the idea from a Taylor Swift song (yes, I am an 18-year-old girl who loves her.) The lyrics are written as smoke coming from the burning town. If you read the lyrics I think the painting is self-explanatory. I will probably end up doing another painting of a song by her, but I'm debating whether or not I should write the lyricss on the painting or simply show what I feel about the song. This was the first painting I acutally like that used a splatter-effect without looking like pre-school artwork.
This was done in about two days and definatley is the worst portraiture I've ever done. I had never tried to draw a person with pastel so it was difficult but I tried. I'll admit I gave up once I got to the tongue (I had her tongue stuck out because I wanted the facial expression to be different than other portraits I have done.) I might try this again, but I prefer to use pastel for landscapes.
In an attempt to evoke emotion and show rythm, I used light and dark lines purposefully. The lines are nearly straight, and run in both horizontal and vertical directions. The canvas can be turned either way and evoke a different feeling each way. The lines going either way can be seen as grass-like, tree-like, fire-like, water-like etc. |
